This three week project is a design study in affordances. Typical design favors function over affordance; asking the question, “What is it made for?” In the design of this simple pavilion, the question is, “What could it be used for?” Rather than prescribe a certain function, the goal of this exercise was to afford a variety of activities.
The finished pavilion uses rules of proportion, structural repetition, selective light patterns, and implied lines of enclosure to establish a beauty that encourages inhabitation.
